U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the Department of Justice will award $465,170 to the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center, located in Montgomery. This grant is awarded through the FY 2008 Developing and Enhancing Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification Programs, which provides victims of crimes accurate and timely information regarding the status of offenders and events related to their case.
“It is terrible to be a victim of a crime,” said Shelby. “The Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center will use this grant funding to enhance our Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification program to provide victims of crimes with anonymous access to information regarding their case. This important program allows victims of crimes to participate in the judicial process without the risk of further victimization.”
