U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that Department of Transportation has awarded $2.789 million to the Huntsville-Madison County Airport Authority. This funding will be used to acquire aircraft rescue and fire-fighting safety equipment, acquire an interactive training system, construct a sand and chemical storage building, expand the terminal building and install runway lighting at the Huntsville International-Carl T. Jones Field.
“Huntsville is one of the fastest growing cities in the South,” said Shelby. “These improvements to the airport will allow Huntsville to meet the needs of the increased population traveling to, from, and through the State. Efficient transportation systems are critical to attracting new citizens, tourists and businesses.”
