U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), ranking member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science, today announced that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has awarded $218,015 to Auburn University to continue its research into the development of marine shrimp production in low salinity environments.
“Auburn University continues to be on the forefront of groundbreaking aquaculture research,” said Shelby. “Auburn will use this funding to develop and promote farming techniques that are tailored for inland farming. The aquaculture industry has important economic benefits to Alabama. Findings from this research will provide farmers with critical information to assist them to grow and market shrimp.”
