Shelby Announces $200,000 for Macon County Board of Education

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-Ala.), a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced that the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) will award $200,000 to the Macon County Board of Education for its Star Academy Dropout Prevention Program.  This program works to decrease the high school dropout rate by engaging students with learning activities.

“Young people are the future of this nation and their education should be one of our most important priorities,” said Shelby.  “A solid high school education equips graduates with the foundation of knowledge they need to further their education or enter the workforce.  As our nation faces new economic difficulties, it is even more critical that we invest in our schools to ensure that Alabama’s youth are prepared for the challenges they will face.”

In addition to ARC funds, the total project cost of $377,000 includes $177,000 from state sources.
