Shelby Announces Reopening of Disaster Loan Program for Small Business Owners

U.S. Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) today announced that the U.S. Small Business Administration will again offer Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDL) to Gulf Coast small business owners who were affected by the 2005 Gulf Coast hurricanes.

“The 2005 Hurricane Season was one of the most destructive on record,” said Shelby. “It is critical that we aid the people, businesses and communities of Alabama and the Gulf Coast who were affected by these natural disasters.”

Pre-existing small businesses that were located in declared disaster areas after Hurricane Dennis, Katrina, Rita and Wilma can apply for EDIL until December 31, 2007.  For a list of declared counties, go to www.sba.gov/services/disasterassistance/basics/recentdisaster.

To apply, small businesses can visit the SBA’s website at www.sba.gov/disaster to download an application, or they may contact the agency’s Customer Service Center at 1-800-659-2955.  Small business may also request an application by emailing distastercustomerservice@sba.gov.
